The school keeps few rowing boats on site at the campus. Based on availability students can check boats out in the evenings and on weekends to explore Port Townsend Bay.
The
Wooden Boat Foundation’s (WBF) fleet of small craft is also available to members from their headquarters in Port Townsend. Several racing shells practice and perform under the auspices of the WBF.
Many hundreds of miles of protected cruising waters spread out from Port Townsend Bay. Students can learn sailing, seamanship and cruising skills that will enable them to become useful crew and competent skippers (program fees may apply). Sailing experience aboard vessels ranging in size from 20-foot sloops to 100-foot schooners is available through the
Wooden Boat Foundation.
Bicycle riders can fan out from the Heritage Campus to explore the mostly rural roads and highways of Jefferson County, or catch the fast ferry to the San Juan Archipelago to island hop by boat and bike.
Skiers will enjoy traveling into the Olympic Mountains less than two hours away, or across the Sound to the Cascade Mountains, where cross-country and downhill slopes provide challenge for both expert and novice.
