This year during the summer workshop series students will be building a 16 foot Swampscott Dory. Workshops are held on weekends starting July 10th and running through August 30th. You can choose to take a single workshop to learn a specific area of boatbuilding, or you can enroll in the entire workshop series and build the boat from lofting to finish work. Either way you are sure to have a blast and learn a new hobby that will last a lifetime.

Follow the link below for a complete list of the workshops. Select the workshop titles for complete descriptions, dates and tuition information. To register, download the attached Registration Form or contact the school at 360-385-4948.

About the Swampscott Dory

The Swampscott Dory is an excellent open water and expedition boat. It is also known as a surf dory because it can be launched from the beach directly into the ocean. It is a flat bottomed dory, allowing the boat to sit square on the beach. The boat was designed to be used for commercial fishing, but also makes a great boat for transportation. The boat is noted for seaworthiness and speed, small enough to be very maneuverable, yet large enough to carry 3 adults and their gear. For more information on the boat, check out The Dory Book by John Gardner (1987) published by Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Connecticut.

About Richard Wilmore, Instructor

Richard has been a shipwright most of his working life. His depth of experience in the commercial boatyards repairing and building wooden fish boats, tugs and other commercial craft gives him a background uniquely suited to the school's repair and restoration curriculum. Richard has received high marks from his students for his depth of knowledge, easy-going style and patience.

We hope to see you this Summer down at the Boat School!
