Education goal

Description

In this workshop you will learn how to use high carbon steel to make a quality edge tool. You’ll learn to forge the tang, form the tool shaft and shape the cutting edge to get a balanced good-looking tool. Heat treating to the proper hardness required for your tool’s particular use and how to grind, polish and buff the piece to a smooth attractive finish is all part of the process. You will then learn how to put a razor edge on your creation. You will produce one tool during the workshop while learning the skills that apply to all blacksmithing.

Future tools you might construct include chisels, gouges, slicks, draw knives, scorps and carving knives, to name just a few.
